    Application of support vector machines on the basis of the first Hungarian bankruptcy model

    In our study we rely on a data mining procedure known as support vector machine (SVM) on the database of the first Hungarian bankruptcy model. The models constructed are then contrasted with the results of earlier bankruptcy models with the use of classification accuracy and the area under the ROC curve. In using the SVM technique, in addition to conventional kernel functions, we also examine the possibilities of applying the ANOVA kernel function and take a detailed look at data preparation tasks recommended in using the SVM method (handling of outliers). The results of the models assembled suggest that a significant improvement of classification accuracy can be achieved on the database of the first Hungarian bankruptcy model when using the SVM method as opposed to neural networks

    Ukraine belongs among those young countries where the beginnings of democratisation and nation-building approximately coincided. While the development of nation states in Central Europe was usually preceded by the development of nations, the biggest dilemma in the Ukraine is whether a nation-state programme — parallel to the aim of state-building — is able to bring unfinished nation-building to completion. Ukraine sways between the EU and Russia with enormous amplitude. The alternating orientation between the West and the East can be ascribed to superpower ambitions reaching beyond Ukraine. Eventually, internal and external determinants are intertwined and mutually interact with one another. The aim of the paper is to explain the dilemmas arising from identity problems behind the Ukraine’s internal and external orientation

    The scaling limit of the critical one-dimensional random Schrodinger operator

    We consider two models of one-dimensional discrete random Schrodinger operators (H_n \psi)_l ={\psi}_{l-1}+{\psi}_{l +1}+v_l {\psi}_l, {\psi}_0={\psi}_{n+1}=0 in the cases v_k=\sigma {\omega}_k/\sqrt{n} and v_k=\sigma {\omega}_k/ \sqrt{k}. Here {\omega}_k are independent random variables with mean 0 and variance 1. We show that the eigenvectors are delocalized and the transfer matrix evolution has a scaling limit given by a stochastic differential equation. In both cases, eigenvalues near a fixed bulk energy E have a point process limit. We give bounds on the eigenvalue repulsion, large gap probability, identify the limiting intensity and provide a central limit theorem. In the second model, the limiting processes are the same as the point processes obtained as the bulk scaling limits of the beta-ensembles of random matrix theory.     Environmental induction models for the investigation of activity: Changes in glutathione peroxidase, a crucial factor of the antioxidant defence

    Glutathione peroxidase enzyme superfamily plays significant role in the elimination of reactive oxygen free radicals in the animals. Many characteristics of these proteins have been revealed already, but their regulation is still not known. Several data suggest that some environmental factors have certain regulatory effect, while others propose strict genetic regulation.In this report we present four different environmental induction models in which New Zealand white rabbits were used as experimental animals. In three models, free radical load of different origin, lipidperoxide load, application of a glutathione depletor or a prooxidant agent, was introduced. Beside these negative models a positive model was also constructed in which additive selenium was supplied.Glutathione peroxidase activity was measured in blood serum, erythrocyte haemolysate and liver. Reduced glutathione, and malondialdehyde concentration in the liver were also determined.According to the results, the established models are capable for analysing the enzyme activity ˟ environmental interactions

    The first two terms in the large NN asymptotic expansion of the β\beta moment of the characteristic polynomial for the Gaussian and Laguerre β\beta-ensembles are calculated. This is used to compute the asymptotic expansion of the spectral density in these ensembles, in the exponentially small region outside the leading support, up to terms o(1)o(1) . The leading form of the right tail of the distribution of the largest eigenvalue is given by the density in this regime. It is demonstrated that there is a scaling from this, to the right tail asymptotics for the distribution of the largest eigenvalue at the soft edge.Comment: 19 page

    The slow component of the delayed rectifier potassium current in undiseased human ventricular myocytes

    Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the properties of the slow component of the delayed rectifier potassium current (I-Ks) in myocytes isolated from undiseased human left ventricles. Methods: The whole-cell configuration of the patch-clamp technique was applied in 58 left ventricular myocytes from 15 hearts at 37 degreesC. Nisoldipine (1 muM) was used to block inward calcium current (I-Ca) and E-4031 (1-5 muM) was applied to inhibit the rapid component of the delayed rectifier potassium current (I-Ks). Results: In 31 myocytes an E-4031 insensitive, but L-735,821 and chromanol 293B sensitive, tail current was identified which was attributed to the slow component of I-K (I-Ks). Activation of I-Ks was slow (tau = 903 +/- 101 ms at 50 mV, n = 24), but deactivation of the current was relatively rapid ( tau =122.4 +/- 11.7 ms at -40 mV, n = 19). The activation of I-Ks was voltage independent but its deactivation showed clear voltage dependence. The deactivation was faster at negative voltages (about 100 ms at -50 mV) and slower at depolarized potentials (about 300 ms at 0 mV). In six cells, the reversal potential was -81.6 +/- 2.8 mV on an average which is close to the K+ equilibrium potential suggesting K+ as the main charge carrier. Conclusion: In undiseased human ventricular myocytes, I-Ks exhibits slow activation and fast deactivation kinetics. Therefore, in humans I-Ks differs from that reported in guinea pig, and it best resembles I-Ks described in dog and rabbit ventricular myocytes

    Pathology and Hygiene COOLING PANEL TYPE AND LOCATION INFLUENCE NEST TEMPERATURE, GROWTH AND SANITARY STATUS OF RABBITS DURING THE COLD SEASON IN HUNGARY

    ABSTRACT Evaporative cooling panels fitted to the wall of rabbit houses can have adverse effect on the nearby nests and newborn rabbits, especially in the cold season of continental climate as in Hungary. Changing the way of installation could prevent that. This study was performed at winter in two buildings of a commercial rabbit farm in Hungary which were different only in the way of installation of the evaporative cooling panels. In building A the panel was fitted immediately onto the wall as a single sheet, whereas in the Building B a small room was joined and the panel was fitted onto the wall of that in the form of three smaller sheets but with the same total surface. Air temperature (7.5°C vs. 14.1°C), nestbox wall temperature (14.8°C vs. 18°C), nest temperature (27.2°C vs. 28.8°C) and newborn skin temperature (35.4°C vs. 36.2°C) were significantly (P<0.001) different in building A when measured at the panel or at the end of this building (30-40 m far from the panel). This difference was not present in building B. Temperature gradients between the newborn skin and the nest, as well as between the nest and the nest box wall were high, what means that the heat flow was small and the insulation provided by the nest material was good. Installation type did not affect litter performance, even if higher probability that a kit is dying before 21 days of age was found in each building in the nest boxes placed near to the panel (0.21 vs. 0.13 in A and 0.27 vs. 0.16 in B, P<0.005). The frequency of the P. multocida carrier does at day 7 post partum was higher at the end (0.35) of the two buildings than in front of the panel (0.23), but the difference was not significant. In summary, fitting of cooling panel could decrease inside air, nest box wall, nest and newborns skin temperature during the cold season in Hungary. However, insulation provided by the nest material ensures a near normal body temperature even in front of the panel. Installation type of cooling panels thus could influence only inside air and nest box wall temperatures
